Steven C. Stigge

November 2, 1953 — November 10, 2024

Washington, KS

Steven Charles Stigge, age 71, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024 after a courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. He was a beloved son, brother, and uncle.

Born on November 2,1953 in Belleville, KS, Steven was the last of four children to John Sr. and Loretta Niemann Stigge. He enjoyed his childhood on the farm and attended Washington schools, participating in activities such as Future Farmers of America. Steven graduated from Washington High School in 1971 as a proud Tiger.

He then dedicated his life to farming alongside his father and brothers, operating Stigge and Sons around the Washington area. Together, they cultivated not only the land but also a legacy of hard work, family loyalty, and respect for nature that he carried with him every day of his life.

A devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Greenleaf, KS, Steven found strength and community through his faith. He was baptized November 29, 1953 and confirmed on May 21, 1967, both at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. His church family remember him for his faith and resilience.

Outside of his work and faith, Steven found great joy in the simple moments - especially when telling jokes, playing cards, watching movies, or enjoying the companionship of his dog Lobo. He was a life-long reader who traveled the world through books. Steven loved homemade granola and pie and cherished gathering around the table in fellowship with family. His nieces and nephews valued his wit and candidness as they played cards together and teased one another.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents John Sr. and Loretta, sister Carolyn Helms, and brother Orville.

Survivors include his brother John Jr. of Washington, KS, eight nieces and two nephews, plus a number of cousins and many other loving family members.

In accordance with his wishes, Steven generously requested his body be donated to research, hoping to further understanding of multiple sclerosis for future generations.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Washington Public Library, which he frequented in his youth, honoring his life.
