Shirley J. Geffert

Shirley J. Geffert, 85, of Greenleaf, Kan., died August 4, 2018 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, Kan.Visitation was Wednesday, August 8 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf.  The family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m.A funeral service was 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 9 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Greenleaf. Pastor Matthew Durance officiated.  Arlene Miller was organist and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace," "Beautiful Savior" and "Behold a Host, Arrayed in White." Pallbearers were Jacob Hughes, Jason Geffert, Allan Schmale, Clayton Rahe, James Rahe and Mike Diederich.Burial was in the Greenleaf Cemetery.   Shirley was born on April 15, 1933 at Wichita, Kan. to Walter and Odessa (Cox) Chamberlain.  In 1951, she graduated from Wichita High School.  On October 13, 1957, she was united in marriage to Eldon Geffert at Wichita.   Shirley worked many years as a waitress at the American Legion Shaw Post 235.  She was a house parent at Twin Valley Developmental Services and cleaned the Citizens National Bank and numerous houses in Greenleaf and Washington.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Shirley loved her cats and always had plenty to keep her company.   Survivors include her children, Cheryl (Todd) Hughes, Washington, Gary Geffert, Greenleaf; three grandchildren, Heather (Allan) Schmale, Clay Center, Jacob Hughes and Jason Geffert, Washington; and two great grandchildren, Kody and Kora Schmale.   Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Eldon in 2012; daughter, Deanna Rathbone; sister, Dorothy Burrows; and brother, Harold Chamberlain.   A memorial fund has been estalbished and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
