Ray Gauby Ditmars

Ray Gauby Ditmars, 94, Washington, died Monday, May 4, 2020 at the Washington County Hospital. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Washington Christian Church in Washington. Ray Gauby Ditmars, the son of Alva and Nora Ditmars, was born April 5, 1926 at Washington, Kansas. He died Monday, May 4, 2020, at the Washington County Hospital at the age of 94. Ray was born at Washington to Alva and Nora Gauby Ditmars. He grew up in Washington and owned and operated a jewelry store for several years in Washington and Hiawatha. Ray also was a farmer and handyman for most of his life. He built or remodeled every home he lived in. He always found some way to fix any problem. On September 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Ada Fae Stoffel, the love of his life, at the Washington Christian Church. He was a member of the Washington Christian Church and the Lions Club in Washington and Hiawatha. He taught various ages of Sunday School classes and was an elder at the church. He rarely missed attending church until the later years when his body would not allow him to get there. Wherever he was if there was a baby, he had to hold the baby. Any fussy baby always calmed for him. Preceding him in death were his parents Alva and Nora Ditmars; wife, Ada Fae in 2006; brothers, Lloyd Ditmars, John Ditmars, Sherman Ditmars; sisters, Lucy Rose, Blanch Roop, Ruth Moffitt, Eula Thayer, Bessie Penner and Dora Ditmars. Survivors include daughters, Gina (Tony) Miller, Marysville, Kristie (Dave) Hiiva, Post Falls, ID, Melissa Ditmars, Washington; sisters, Ina (Elmer) Fike , Mountain View, MO, Maud Lengel, Juda, WI. A memorial fund has been established to the Washington Christian Church Building Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
