Neil Albert Waterman, 83, Washington, died Sunday, November 30, 2019 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. Visitation was from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 5 at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 6 at the Ward Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Stark officiated. Gay Lynn Manning accompanied Carla Stark as she sang "He Grew the Tree" and "In the Garden." Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, east of Washington on Hwy 36 and Greenleaf corner. Neil was born on July 26, 1936 at rural Washington, KS to Albert and Louiza (Laue) Waterman. Neil attended Guiding Star Grade School and Washington High School. After school, he worked for Hesston Manufacturing in Hesston, KS and Boeing in Wichita. When he returned to Washington, he worked for Kier’s Grocery and later worked the family farms. He raised hogs for several years then ran a cow/calf herd. Farming was his life. On June 26, 1966, he married Carolyn McPherson at the Church of the Brethren in McLouth, Kansas. They had one son, Steven. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Arnold Waterman; and sister, Elaine Bedinghaus. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; son, Steven (Marie) Waterman, Greenleaf; sisters, Lois (Bob) Jensen, Martha (Larry) Kautz both of Wichita; brother, Earl (Norma) Waterman, Beloit; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Esther) McPherson, Kansas City, KS, Larry (Frances) McPherson, Eudora; grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon Johnston) Waterman, Blue Rapids, Heather (Chris) Laflen, Greenleaf and Justin (Ruthie) Huddleston, Junction City; and great grandchildren, Corbin Ryan, Isabel, Hannah and Ariana Huddleston and Jayden and Karson Laflen. A memorial fund is established to Washington Christian Church or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
