Marjorie E. Nutsch, 96, Washington, died Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home, Washington. Visitation will be Friday, August 2, from noon until 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the United Methodist Church, Washington. Burial will be in Washington City Cemetery. Marjorie was born to Walter and Rhoda (Bolejack) Strong on November 9, 1922 on a farm south of Barnes. Marj attended a country school graduating from the 8th grade followed by high school in Barnes and graduation in 1940. After this, she took Normal School training in Morrowville and taught one year at Rock School, located southwest of Morrowville area. Marjorie met Richard Nutsch when she was helping serve lunch to a threshing crew and they married on March 6, 1943. Their first home was on a farm in the Lowe Center area northwest of Morrowville. They were there less than a year before moving to an adjoining acreage where they stayed until 1945. They then bought the Reno #2 filling station and grocery store. After three years of operating this, they moved back to the family farm until moving to a farm east of Washington. Here they finished raising their family of 13 until retiring in 1982, selling the farm and moving into Washington. Marj worked for years as a waitress at the Sale Barn Cafe’ and Mom & Pop’s, both in Washington. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, flowers and embroidery. Marj was a member of the United Methodist Church and also volunteered for the local election board and KSDS. Family was very important and she especially enjoyed family holidays and get togethers. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Richard; son, Norman “Cowboy” Nutsch; sister, Virginia Preston; granddaughter, Lisa Nutsch; and great grandson, Kyle Lee Pospichal; Survivors include her children, Sharon Mohr, Stanley, WI, Ronold (Linda) Nutsch, Washington, Carol (Dean) Schleif, Wamego, Laurette (Robert) Siebert, Abilene, Larry (Vivian) Nutsch, Alma, Linda (Earl) Mathison, Thorp, WI, Robert (Barbara) Nutsch, Kalamazoo, MI, David (Debbie) Nutsch, Washington, Bruce Nutsch, Muscotah, Kathy Kohler, Wamego, Susan (Russ) Slater, Morrowville, Sandra Nutsch, Estes Park, CO; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A Memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
