Lucille Landis

Lucille Landis, age 96, of Linn, Kansas, died at Eaglecrest Assisted Living in Salina, Kansas on October 13, 2024.

Visitation was Friday, October 18, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linn with Rev. Ronald Hamm officiating.  The organist was Sheila Ouellette and music included "Church in the Wildwood", "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Pallbearers were Melanie Landis, Michael Landis, Jill Hanson, Marsha Landis, Erica Keener, Lars Larson, Angela Gross and Lee Larson.

Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Kansas.

Lucille, the 4th of 10 children was born to Reuben and Gertrude (Yungeberg) Woodward on May 13, 1928, near Barnes, Kansas. She attended Bell Grade School. As a teenager, Lucille worked for several farm wives, later coming to Linn where she was employed at the Hoerman Packing Company for several years.

On October 19, 1945, she married Kenneth Landis in Washington, Kansas. They lived near Fairbury, NE several months, then moved to Linn where they raised their children Lonny, Steve, Rick and Vickie. Lucille was a full-time housewife and Mother with a very special love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lucille was baptized February 27, 1955 and became a member of the Linn United Methodist Church where she was a faithful worker in the Church and served as Treasurer for the United Methodist Women for 16 years before the Church closed.

She was a member of the Wholmoor American Legion Auxiliary in Linn from 1959 to present and served as a Treasurer in the earlier years. In 2022 she was honored as one of three ladies still living that were Charter members. 

Lucille had many friends in Linn and surrounding communities. She was well known for her friendship, kindness and caring. She always lent a helping hand and remembered the sick and elderly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth; sister Ruby Francis; and brothers, Eugene, Melvin (infant), Darrol, Karle and Don Woodward; son-in-law Steven Larson; and granddaughter Amy Landis.

She is survived by children, Lonny and wife Susan, Salina, Steven and wife Rose, Clay Center, Rick and wife Brenda, Brookville and Vickie and husband Doug Hoover, Abilene; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Finlayson, Tucson, Arizona (formerly Washington, Kansas); and brothers Ray Woodward and wife Barbara, St. Paris, Ohio, Delvin Woodward, Junction City; and nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials can be made to the Wholmoor American Legion Auxiliary in Linn and sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
