Lavern W. Herrs, 90, Linn, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 20 at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21 at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, west of Linn. Lavern W. Herrs, was born to Theodore and Laura (Meyer) Herrs, May 11, 1932 at the farm near Palmer. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at Immanuel Lutheran School. On August 21, 1965, he was united in marriage to Doris Terpening at Endicott, NE. They started their life together on a farm west of Linn. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher, farming with his brothers and nephews. Lavern enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He never met someone he didn't like to share stories with, creating lifelong friendships through his days of custom cutting, hauling cattle all over the Midwest and spending time at cattle sales. He especially liked spending time with his family and visiting with friends, playing cards and dominos. Over the years the couple traveled and after retirement in 2007, Lavern and Doris moved to Linn. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Linn American Legion. He served on the boards of the Linn Farmers Co-op Elevator, Linn Lutheran School Board, Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn American Legion, Linn/Palmer Fire Department and over the years held various positions at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Verlin Herrs and his wife Lola Herrs; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Bokelman and Wayne Terpening and his wife Marla Terpening. He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Amy (Shawn) Damman, Greg Herrs, all of Topeka; brother, Lowell (Linda) Herrs, Linn, sister, Marcellene Bokelman, Linn; brother-in-law, Donald Terpening, Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren, Jessie (Ryan) Smith, Julia (Craig) Mueting and great grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Liam Smith, and Lexi Mueting. A memorial fund is established for the Linn Community Nursing Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
