June Arlene Else, 97, Hollenberg, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury, NE. Visitation will be Monday, December 28, from 3 until 6 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Mask are required. A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 29 at the Fairbury City Cemetery, Fairbury, NE. June was born on the family farm west of Hollenberg to William Earl and Ella (Hackbarth) Nutter on March 17, 1923. She attended Plainview Rural School and in 1940 graduated from Hollenberg High School. After graduation, she worked in the Hested Stores office in Fairbury, NE and lived with her grandmother. On April 16, 1942, she married Othal Else in Washington and lived there for a year before moving to the farm, where they lived for two decades. They then moved to the Double E ranch west of Hollenberg. June was a member of the Hollenberg Methodist Church until it closed, then joined the Washington United Methodist Church. She served as church treasurer, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and belonged to the Washington Saddle Club. She was employed by the Washington First National Bank for 30 years. June was proud to be a country woman. She enjoyed people, big band music, cards, sports, dancing, rodeos, horses and dogs. June and Othal competed with palominos in the American Royal at Kansas City and in many other horse shows. The Shriners’ Plamor Parade at St. Joseph, MO, the Nebraska State Fair and various other saddle club events. Survivors include her three children, Connie (Richard) Hecox, Brighton, CO, Rita Imlay, Lincoln, NE, Floyd Else, Hollenberg, (Jan Taggart); five grandchildren, Doug Hecox, Washington, D.C., Andrew (Kathleen) Hecox, Aurora, CO, John Porter, Lincoln, NE, Laura Porter, Raleigh, NC and Jason (Christine) Else, Peosta, IA; five great grandchildren, Kelsea, Sam and Abby Porter, Justin and Bethany Else; and nieces Barbara Ann (Jerry) Bauer, Stephens City, VA, Lynne (Lan) Merrill, Thousand Oaks, CA, Lori (Dave) Holst, Mt. Shasta, CA and Erica (Joe) Wyse, Palo Cedro, CA A memorial fund has been established to BCH Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
