Joseph A. Baker, 93, Washington, died Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Washington County Hospital. Visitation is Thursday, July 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 2, St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Pallbearers are Timothy Baker, Joseph Baker, Todd Baker, David Baker, Philip Baker and Andy Baker. Burial is in the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Morrowville. Joseph was born October 28, 1926 at Marienthal, KS to Antone F. and Caecelia (Baier) Baker. At the age of 18, he served in the U.S. Army in Manilla and the Philippines. On November 4, 1947, Joseph was united in marriage to Virginia Polan at Schulte, KS. They moved to the Haddam area in 1975, where Joseph farmed. He enjoyed playing cards, pitch and pinochle, spending time with his family and raising cattle. Joseph belonged to the Knights of Columbus and served on the North Central School Board. Survivors include children, Joan Turley (Clifford), Timothy Baker (Lana), Joseph Dean Baker (Dorothy), Louella Gerstner (Mike), Todd Baker (Annette), Susan Scoggins (George), David Baker, Philip Baker (Jean), Andy Baker, Belinda Roberts (John), and Gwenna Reich (Kevin); thirty-five wonderful grandchildren, many great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter, Beth Reed; daughter-in-law, Kathy Baker; many siblings; and grandsons, Ricke Joe Baker and Joseph George Baker. A memorial fund is established to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia.
