Eva M. Helms, 93, of Linn, KS, died April 2, 2021 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, KS. Visitation was Tuesday, April 6 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 7 at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn with Rev. Bob Leiste officiating. Eunice Beier was organist and hymn selections were “Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me,” “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Call” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” The pallbearers were Brad Ohlde, Troy Lange, Kevin Peters, Kyle Peters, Travis Wohler, Clayton Peters and Spencer Johnson. Burial was in the church cemetery. Eva was born January 6, 1928 at New Castle, NE, daughter of William and Cecilia (Winner) Carson. She was baptized September 1, 1933 at Evangelical Lutheran Orphan Home in Fremont, NE by Rev. Brueggaman. She was confirmed April 5, 1942 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Paul Stolp. After confirmation, she attended Seward High School in Seward, NE. On August 19, 1945, she married the love of her life, Vernon W. Helms at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn by Rev. W.G. Biel. They lived on a farm near Strawberry west of Linn. In the early 80’s, they moved into Linn. Eva was a homemaker, farm wife and after raising her children she owned and operated a liquor store in Linn for 7 years. She enjoyed working with her flowers, seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren, quilting and loved to make meals for her whole family. She could sit for hours on her patio, bird watching. Eva and Vernon loved dancing the polka and playing cards with family and friends. Eva was a member of the Immanuel Ladies Aide and church choir. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon on March 16, 2017; two daughters, Jeanette Peters and Joan Wohler; two sons-in-law, Rodney Ohlde and David Wohler; three brothers, Jim Carson and wife Leona, Virgil Carson, LeRoy Schaefer and wife Lila; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence Helms and wife Wilda, Elden Helms and wife Elsie and Wilbert Helms and wife Lydia; and a great-grandson, Luke Savage. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Ohlde, Linn, Edith (Roger) Lange, Clay Center, KS, and Sandra (Claire) Wohler, Linn; son-in-law, Mike Peters, Linn; seventeen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to Zion Lutheran Church and Linn Lutheran School. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home. Funeral for Eva Helms
