William “Bill” Mallean, 77, died August 6, 2018 at his home in Washington.Visitation was 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 9 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.A funeral service was 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 10, at the Washington Christian Church. Rev. Jim Stark officiated. Gay Lynn Manning was the organist and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross." A recording of "Open the Eyes of My Heart" was played.Pallbearers were Jim Dunbar, Jim Fenton, Bob Wehling, Chris Crum, Tyler Tremblay and Todd Burt. Burial was in Hanover City Cemetery. Bill was born at Hanover to Henry and Lucille (Munsterman) Mallean on March 11, 1941. He graduated from Kansas State University with a master’s degree in education. Bill taught at Morrowville High School and later was the guidance counselor at Washington High School, until he retired. He had worked as a detassler for Dekalb and a security ranger at Yellowstone, during the summers. Archery, deer hunting and shed hunting were his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed anything outdoors. Survivors include son, Tony (Lara) Mallean, Manhattan; sister, Carol Stout, Hanover; granddaughter, McKenna; and ex-wife, Saundra Rae Dunbar, Clay Center. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, George Mallean; and an infant son, Jeffrey Robert Mallean. Memorial Fund: Established and will be designated later.
