Bernard Louis Rieth, 89, died August 22, 2022 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, KS. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Wednesday, August 24 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family received friends from 4 to 5 p.m. A vigil service was at 7 p.m., Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 25 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Bernard was born March 18, 1933 to Frank and Clara (Siebenhaar) Rieth at rural Hanover, KS. He attended country school and grew up in Hanover. After graduating the 8th grade, he farmed west of Hanover, with his brother, Kenneth and milked cows. On November 11, 1978 he was united in marriage to Betty (Dusin) Scheetz at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hanover. They lived on a farm west of Hanover after they married, then moved north of Washington before moving to Washington when he retired from farming. Bernard was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He loved his church and after moving to Washington, attended St. Augustine Catholic Church where he continued to be an active member and grow in his faith. Some of his greatest joys in life came from family, especially his grandchildren. Bernard enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors; he never knew a stranger and made sure to wave at all he passed, even if it meant he took his hand off the steering wheel. Bernard always made sure no one ever left his presence hungry, embodying his true giving spirit. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Dwayne Rieth and Garold “Gary” Rieth. Survivors include his wife Betty; daughter, Vicky (Richard) Miller, Morrowville; three grandsons, Travis (Erica) Lehman, Justin (Dani) Lehman and Jake (Taylor) Miller and seven great grandchildren; and siblings, Kenneth (Barbara) Rieth, Washington, Arnold (Trudy) Rieth, Marysville, Rosella Heier, Grainfield, Marcella Rieth, Hanover and Virginia Parker, Linn. A memorial fund is established to St. Augustine Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
