Alberta A. "Bertie" L'Ecuyer, 72, Morrowville, died September 23, 2023 at Gardenside Nursing Home, Fairbury, NE.
Visitation was from 1 until 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 27 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington, KS, and a Vigil service followed at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 28 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington.
Burial followed in the Morrowville Cemetery, Morrowville.
Alberta was born to Lloyd and Sadie (Menke) Lange in Concordia, KS on November 21, 1950. She grew up on a farm outside of Morrowville until 1957, when her father passed away, then the family moved into Morrowville. She attended Morrowville Grade School and in 1967, she graduated from Morrowville High School. On January 7, 1967, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” L’Ecuyer at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, north of Morrowville. They were blessed with three children, Donna, Dennis and Denise.
Alberta was a farmer’s wife and worked at various jobs, including the Korner Café, which she and Bob owned in the late 60’s. She also worked for nursing homes in Washington, Linn, Concordia, Belleville and Fairbury. Alberta cooked briefly at North Central School and would fill in occasionally at the Cougars Den. She also kept stats for basketball games at North Central.
She went back to school and earned her LPN in 2001 from NCK Tech in Beloit. Alberta worked for nursing homes in north-central Kansas and south-central Nebraska as a LPN, until retiring in 2020.
Alberta loved her coffee time with the ladies at the Cougars Den, watching KU Jayhawk basketball, embroidery work, antiquing and attending auctions, working in her garden and flower beds and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bob on February 10, 2023; and brother, Merlin Lange.
Survivors include her children, Donna Hobbs, Greenleaf, Dennis (Crystal) L’Ecuyer, Washington and Denise (Doug) Hartwig, Marysville; sister, Opal Tobin, Marysville; ten grandchildren, Jessica (Chance) Johnson, Mary (Jayce) Schomaker, Patrick (Mollie) Hobbs, Marlyse (Thomas) Goodroad, Marlin (Sara) L’Ecuyer, Malachi L’Ecuyer, Malari (Liam) Schroller, Megan (Jake) Fletcher, Drew Oldehoeft and Colin Oldehoeft; and five great grandchildren, Susan Fletcher, Kessler and Kenan Hobbs, Lainey Johnson and Waylon L’Ecuyer.
A memorial fund is established to St. Augustine Catholic Church or Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
