Eldon "Bud" Dale Schaich, 83, of Morrowville, KS, died September 22, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor John Frey officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ while Leland Cook sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art". The pallbearers were Lester Ayers, Robert Tuma, Victor Miller, Ronald Miller, Larry Oestman and Ernest Scheetz. Richard Tuma was the honorary pallbearer. Burial was in the Fairbury Cemetery, Fairbury, NE. Eldon was born October 10, 1926, on a farm near Morrowville, the fifth of seven children to Alva and Gertrude (Bower) Schaich. He attended Albia through the second grade and Plainview through the sixth grade. The family moved to Wyoming where he finished the seventh grade. After three years, the family returned to the same farmstead and house near Morrowville. On February 13, 1951, he was drafted into the Army. He served in the 2nd Infantry Division and was wounded in the Korean Conflict. On November 13, 1952, he was honorably discharged. When Eldon came home his father was ill so he took over the farming with his brother Lloyd. He also milked cows and raised cattle and hogs. Eldon resided in the same rock house in which he was born with his brother, Lloyd, who died in 2008. He became ill in 2010 and lived 5 months in the Washington County Hospital until his death. He was baptized in the Methodist Church and was a member of The American Legion Post 396. His hobbies included hunting, visiting and his dog. His parents; infant sister, Lola; two sisters, Evelyn Miller and Opal Russell; and two brothers, Glenn and Lloyd; preceded him in death. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Terpening of Klamath Falls, Oregon; nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the Morrowville Community Cafe.
