Norman "Cowboy" Nutsch, 59, of Washington, Kansas, died Sunday, August, 1, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital. A funeral service was held 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 6 at Cowboy’s residence across from Cowboy’s Custom Cycle. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Burial was in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery north of Morrowville, Kansas. The pallbearers were Mike Mohr, Mark Nutsch, Travis Mathison, Shane Mathison, Dustin Nutsch, Ben Nutsch, Jason Barr, Jon Barr, Chad Nutsch, Todd Nutsch, Brian Nutsch and Eric Mathison. The honorary pallbearers were Scotty DeVol, Pat Riley, Dave Smerchek, Gerald Meyer, Dan Alex and Cody Stambaugh. Cowboy was born January 23, 1951 at Odell, Nebraska to Richard and Marjorie (Strong) Nutsch. He graduated from Washington High School and Beloit Vo-Tech where he obtained his degree in diesel mechanics. Cowboy owned and operated Cowboy’s Custom Cycle east of Washington since 1978. He married Liz Binning. They later divorced. Cowboy loved restoring old Harley Davidson motor cycles and bringing them back to their original condition. He loved the outdoors and the freedom of riding the highways on his cycle. He always helped others by organizing rides for charity, to benefit a friend in need, and he loaned a bike to a high school home economics department for a style show. Many people may not know of his outstanding ability to break and train horses, his love of cars and of his green thumb in growing flowers. Cowboy was preceded in death by his father, Richard, April 25, 1998; faithful companion Bingo in 2009; grandparents, August and Sophia Nutsch, Walter and Rhoda Strong. Survivors include his mother, Marjorie of Washington; siblings, Sharon Mohr (Clayton Goodman) of Stanley, WI, Ronold Nutsch (Linda) of Washington, Carol Schleif (Dean) of Wamego, Laurette Siebert (Robert) of Abilene, Larry Nutsch (Vivian) of Alma, Linda Mathison (Earl) of Thorp, WI, Robert Nutsch (Barbara) of Kalamazoo, MI, David Nutsch (Debbie) of Washington, Bruce Nutsch (Susan Judd) of Muscotah, KS, Kathy Kohler of Wamego, Susan Slater (Russ) of Morrowville and Sandra Nutsch of St. Charles, MN; Cody Stambaugh (who was like a son to him); several nieces, nephews, friends and his dog Ezzy. Memorials may be made to the Norman “Cowboy” Nutsch Memorial Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
