Donald G.W. Hornbostel, 79, Palmer, died Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. He was born at Palmer to William and Sophie (Peters) Hornbostel on February 18, 1927. Donald served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Bronze Star recipient. He also was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of the American Legion, former Legion Commander, Men’s Club, Palmer Saddle Club, former Walther League Vice President and an Elder of his church. Donald was united in marriage to LaVon Rabe on December 16, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Palmer. To this union they were blessed with three sons. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and wife Ora Hornbostel, William and wife Barbara Hornbostel, Reinhold Hornbostel, Alfons Hornbostel; sisters, Hulda Hornbostel and husband Henry, Sophie Meyer and husband William, Velma Feldhausen and husband Frank, Paula Geuder and husband Harold, Nora Macher and husband Charles; and a brother in law, Fred Garner. Donald is survived by his wife LaVon, Palmer; sons, James Hornbostel, Allen Hornbostel and wife Mary, all of Palmer, Randall Hornbostel and wife Jean Marie, Scottsbluff, NE; sister, Estella Garner, Spring Hill, FL; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service was held, Saturday, September 30, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Palmer. Pastor Gene Holtorf officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were, Floyd Meyer, Frank Feldhausen, Delbert Hornbostel, Marvin Hornbostel, Ronald Davies, Charles Urban, Ralph Meyer and Robert Ohlde. A memorial fund was established to the church.
