Leo Hogan, 94, Greenleaf, died Monday, July 24, 2006 at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center. He was born at Kimeo on February 17, 1912 to Francis “Frank” and Susan ( Kennelly) Hogan. The family resided on a farm near Chepstow and later lived near Kimeo. Leo’s mother was a victim of the flu epidemic in 1917 when Leo was 5 years old. Joseph Hogan’s family, Leo’s uncle, raised Leo as a member of their own family. Leo attended school at Greenleaf graduating from the Greenleaf High School in 1928 and then worked on the farm. Leo later attended Midland Radio Institute in Kansas City. He then joined the family business, Hogan & Sons, which included several businesses in the Greenleaf area. When this organization was sold to various parties, including the Grain Elevator and Propane to Hoover’s, Leo remained with Hoover’s until his retirement. On April 18, 1979 he was united in marriage to Jane Connard at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Marysville. Jane preceded him in death November 18, 1998. Leo was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; Leonard Hogan in 1937, Nicholas Hogan, Frances Hogan, Teresa Sullivan, Sara Snider, Lombardo and Mary Van Velzer. Funeral service for Leo will be held Friday, July 28, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf at 11:00 am. Father James Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday at 10:30 am. Memorials have been established to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
