Sadie Ann Lange, 99, of Morrowville, KS, died Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30 at the Morrowville Christian Church. Rev. Andrew Lucas officiated. Della Goldsberry played the organ while John Durst sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”. Pallbearers were James Lange, Ron Lange, Kent Lange, Jon Brinkman, Dennis L'Ecuyer and Paul Oldehoeft. Burial was in the Morrowville Cemetery. Sadie was born September 3, 1910, near Morrowville to Henry and Clara (Dier) Menke. On April 7, 1937, she married Lloyd A. Lange in Washington County. Together they farmed near Morrowville until he preceded her in death on March 10, 1957. She then worked as a cook for the Morrowville Schools, Pony Express Cafe and The Korner Cafe until retiring at the age of 75. After her sister, Laura, passed away, Sadie helped raise Laura's daughter, Viola Kearn, from the age of 17. Viola survives her. She was a member of the Morrowville Christian Church and Willing Workers. She enjoyed cooking for family dinners, sewing, quilting, starting and growing plants, especially African Violets. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Emma, Laura and Amelia; six brothers, Tom, Dick, Harry, Ray, Albert and Charles "Pete"; and one great-great-grandchild. Survivors include two daughters, Alberta (Bob) L'Ecuyer, Morrowville, Opal (Gary) Tobin, Marysville; one son, Merlin (Doris) Lange, Washington; seven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
