Basil Erwin Elliott, 86, died January 20, 2010 at his home in Morrowville. A funeral service was held 10:00 am, Saturday, January 23 at the Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock officiated. “Grandpa”, “Go Rest High on That Mountain” and “I’ll Fly Away” was played during the service. Burial was in the Hickory Grove (Blocker) Cemetery, Haddam, Kansas. Pallbearers were Bob Nutsch, Lonnie Leidig, Matt Nutz, Joe L’Ecuyer, Bob Elliott, and Tom L’Ecuyer . Honorary pallbearers are Andy McGhghy, Tia Collins, Trey Collins, Brent jantz, Melissa Jantz, Seth Jantz, Larz Elliott, Jessica Elliott, Tom McGhghy, Amber McGhghy, Tamika Elliott, Kaylie McGhghy and Kaden Elliott. Basil was born on November 24, 1923 at Morrowville to John and Gertrude (Bower) Elliott. He graduated from Morrowville High School in 1941. Basil was a farmer, bus driver, and drove a motor grader. He worked for Washington County and townships for 20 years. He enjoyed his farm, jeep, Christmas and spending time with his family. Basil married Bonnie Jean Nutz on April 18, 1954 in Washington. To this union three children were born, Rose, Lyle and Sue. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Orville; and his son, Lyle, November 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Morrowville; daughters, Rose Jantz and husband Melvin of Deshler, Ne, Sue McGhghy and husband Gary of Hebron, Ne; daughter in law, Mary Elliott of Haddam; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family at a later date.
