James "Jim" A. Cairns, 69, of Raymond, NE, peacefully passed away on December 25, 2009, at the Monarch Hospice House in Lincoln, NE. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, at Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf, KS. Pastor Chris LaBoube officiated. Arlene Miller was organist and accompanied Cheryl Waterman while she sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Burial was in the Greenleaf Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Gonser, Gary Gonser, John Gonser, Stanley Cairns, Jerry Green and Mike Trentman. Jim was born June 9, 1940, at Blue Rapids, KS, the son of Lyle & Nellie Cairns. He was an 'over the road' truck driver for forty plus years and help set in place and teach the first truck driving classes at Southeast Community College. In his retirement years he enjoyed sitting with his wife on their deck watching all the wildlife activity and visiting with neighbors and friends. Survivors include his wife, Judy; sister, Maggie Gonser of Clay Center, KS; niece, Jodie VanDyke of Clay Center; nephews, David and Gary Gonser of Clay Center, and John Gonser of Lenexa, KS. Jim is proceeded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Bill Gonser. Memorials may be sent to Noah's Dogs of Crete, NE or Matt Talbot Kitchen of Lincoln, NE.
