David R. McGrath

David R. McGrath, 61, of Linn, KS, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Clay County Medical Center. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Paul Tessaro officiated. The pallbearers were Jaylon Rush, Josiah Rush, Jezariah Rush, Jameon Rush, Jeremy McGrath and Eric McGrath. Burial was in the Greenleaf Cemetery. David was born September 27, 1948 at Clay Center, KS, the son of Russell and Heloise (Jones) McGrath. He graduated from Linn High School in 1966. In 1968 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He worked as a seaman and helsman. On March 24, 1979 he married Marline and not only gained a wife but two wonderful step-daughters, Angie Roudybush and Lori Newmeyer. On October 18, 1979 they were blessed with Stephanie Maxine McGrath. Throughout the years he was a caring and loving father. He was faithful to family and friends. He enjoyed taking family and friends to school games and the Greenleaf Swimming Pool, Longford Rodeo, derbies and church. Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie McGrath of Clay Center; two step-daughters, Angie Roudybush and Lori Neumeyer, both of Clay Center; four brothers, Burton McGrath and wife Wilma of Greenleaf, Elmo McGrath and wife Dee of Madison, KS, Dale McGrath and wife Jenny of Valley Falls, KS, and Darrell McGrath of Madison, KS; two sisters, Marilynne Ohlde of Linn, and Maxine Rush of Topeka; brother-in-law, Larry Edger of Washington; and two grandchildren, Dezra and Cody Peeler. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Martha Reed and Linda Edger; and two brother-in-laws, Norbert Ohlde and Arlo Reed.
