Kathleen "Kathy" M. Schaaf, 64, of Linn, KS, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Manhattan, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, west of Linn. Rev Richard Rikli officiated. Organist, Barb Ruhnke, played the congregational hymns, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Heaven Is My Home.” Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Winter, Casey Winter, Scott Schotte, Todd Bisping, Tim Beikman and Gary Beikman. Kathy was born November 16, 1945 to William and Hulda (Meyerhoff) Winter near Palmer, Kansas. She was baptized on November 25, 1945 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church and was confirmed on March 22, 1959 at the church. She attended the Palmer Grade School and graduated from Linn High School in 1963. On January 12, 1964 she was united in marriage to Reynold Schaaf at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer. She and her husband lived on the farm west of Palmer for over 40 years until moving to Linn. Kathy enjoyed cooking; she worked as a cook over the years for the Palmer Café, Linn American Legion, the Linn Community Nursing Home, and Head Start in Greenleaf. She also helped out on the family farm. In her spare time she enjoyed walking, reading, watching and attending Nascar races. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Viola Winter; sister, Muriel Beikman; and a brother and his wife, Dean and Marie Winter; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Redema Schaaf. Survivors include her husband, Reynold; four children, Sandi Redding and husband Vince of Randolph, KS, Rick Schaaf and wife Lisa of Uniontown, KS, Randy Schaaf and wife Lana of Linn, and Jill Schaaf of Prairie Village, KS; and eight grandchildren; one brother, Willie Winter and wife Phyllis of Concordia, KS; brother-in-law, Ray Beikman of Clifton, KS; two sister-in-laws, Harriet and husband Neil Bisping of Linn, KS; Delores and husband Don Schotte of Bremen, KS.
