Leonard W. Koehler, 91, Washington, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home. A funeral service was 10 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2017 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Washington with Father Joseph Kieffer officiating. Gina Miller was organist and played “On Eagles Wings” and “Ave Maria.” A recording of “The Rose” was also played. A rosary service was held at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service. Pallbearers were Mike White, Rick Samland, Dennis White, Doug Goeckel, Leonard Miller and Wayne Bolejack. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Leonard was a lifelong resident of Washington, Kansas. He was born June 6, 1926 and served in the Army during the Korean War. Leonard farmed all his life on his and the family farm. He enjoyed polka music, bird watching, fishing and working on small engines. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Koehler; sister Eileen Meier; brother-in-law, Harold Meier; and nephew, Greg Meier. He is survived by his nieces, Elizabeth McCracken, Margie Meier, Mary Miller and Barbara Meier; grandnephews, Todd McCracken, Blake McCracken, Nathan Miller, Mike Miller, and Chris Johnson; and grandniece, Stephanie Johnson. A memorial fund is established to St. Augustine Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
