Doris W. Beasley, 92, of Washington, KS, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at her home. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday September 30, 2009. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette played while the congregation sang, “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling.” Burial was at the Washington City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Dodds, Rich Parker, Todd Gaines, Ivan Wieters, Steve Beasley, Robert Tremblay and Jack Wohlbrandt. Doris was born May 19, 1917 in York, NE to the late Merle and Ruth Durfee. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Elverto E. Beasley. Doris was known as "Mrs. Beasley" to her students for the over 40 yrs. that she spent teaching in both country schools and Washington Elementary. Following retirement in 1982, Doris enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, dancing and traveling. She is survived by a sister Donna Koenke, Wichita, KS; daughter Ruth Anne Gaines and husband John, Washington, KS; grandson Todd Gaines and wife Chasity, Onaga, KS; granddaugther Stefanie Gaines, Dallas, TX and 2 great granddaugthers Cadence and Catilin Gaines, Onaga, KS. Doris will be greatly missed by her daughter and family along with her many friends.
