Thelma L. Massey, 95, of Marysville, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Private services will be held at Roswell, NM, in October. Thelma was born October 13, 1913 at White Oaks, NM, to William and Sarah (Current) Lee. She worked at a commercial laundry in Roswell, NM and then in Sacramento, CA, while raising her five children. Thelma moved to Washington in the early 80’s to be close to her son, Carl, and his family. She spent a lot of time reading and at the library, she would read books on any topic. She donated her finished books to the library for others to enjoy. Thelma loved to walk and loved all animals, especially cats. She would feed all the neighborhood cats and was able to tame the wild ones. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Lloyd Lee. Survivors include three sons, Corkey Massey of Greenleaf, KS, Walter Massey and wife Margaret of Seabrook, TX, Arthur "Carl" Massey and wife Ella of Washington, KS; two daughters, Morene Massey of Somers, MT, and Nancy Busse and husband LeRoy of Abilene, TX; twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to KSDS or to any animal shelter in her name and sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
