Robert Lee Kenaston, 89, of Linn, KS, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, KS. Visitation was Wednesday, November 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer. Rev. Tom Sahl officiated. Anita Singular was organist and the congregations sang “He Leadeth Me,” “It is Well With My Soul” and “Lift High the Cross.” Pallbearers were Joel Sanneman, Derek Sanneman, Ryan Hiesterman, Greg Oehmke, Rusty Morgan, Kurt Funke and Brock Funke. Burial was be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Palmer. Robert was born December 5, 1926 at Spencer, IA, to E.L. (Roy) and Ethel (Roberts) Kenaston. His family moved to Greenleaf when he was six months old and later to a farm northwest of Linn. He attended country school and graduated Linn High School in 1945. In 1949, Robert was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. On August 21, 1949, he married Lorene Struber at Zion. They were parents to four children and blessed with 67 years together. Robert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and served the church in several capacities. In 1952, Bob and Lorene moved to Wichita and then El Paso, TX, where he worked for Boeing. In the fall of 1962, they returned to Kansas where Bob managed the Clifton Farmers Coop Service Station and later worked for Northern Natural Gas. After retiring, he returned to farming west of Linn. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Schaich and husband, Bob, Lois Maxine Kenaston, and June Odgers and Melvin Odgers; and brothers, Kenneth Kenaston and wife Dorothy, Don Kenaston and wife Iris, infant brothers, Gerald and Paul Kenaston and Ray Kenaston. Survivors include his wife, Lorene; son, Mark Kenaston, Linn; daughters, Bonnie (Doug) Sanneman, Clay Center, Kathy (Terry) Oehmke, Salina, and Jane (David) Funke, Washington; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
