Barbara Cook, 79, of Haddam, KS, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. Visitation was Monday from noon to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 29 at the United Methodist Church in Haddam. Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ while the congregation sang “One Day at a Time” and “Home on the Wings of a Dove”. The great-grandchildren sang “Go Tell It On the Mountain”. The pallbearers were Barry Finlayson, Jerod Finlayson, Kyle Cook, Kevin Cook, Nicol Parde, Darla Franey, Darrick Emery, and Vexa Emery. Burial was in the Morrowville Cemetery. Barbara was born February 21, 1937 near Morrowville, KS, to Paul and Faye (Stanton) Henderson. She graduated from Morrowville High School. She married Donald Emery. He preceded her in death. On July 9, 1959, she married Keith Cook at Denver, CO. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2009. Barbara drove a school bus and worked in the kitchen for North Central High School in Morrowville. She also helped her husband farm. She liked to see the former students and see what they were doing. Family events such as birthdays, holidays, or other special events were important to her. She was most happy when cooking for her family and especially liked the fish fries. Anything was a family event from dressing chickens to baking cookies. Barbara enjoyed needlework, quilting, reading, attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, school programs, playing cards, making ceramics and shopping with Beverly. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Haddam, Haddam Library, and Haddam Card Club. Barbara was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Emery and Keith Cook; parents; brother, Eldon Henderson; and great-granddaughter, Violet Franey. Survivors include her children two sons, Nick (Vicki) Emery, Haddam, and Kenneth (Kris) Cook, Washington; daughter, Beverly (Garry) Finlayson, Washington; eight grandchildren, Nicol (Josh) Parde, Barry (Becky) Finlayson, Kyle Cook, Darla (Chris) Franey, Jerod Finlayson, Kevin (Hadass) Cook, Darrick (Tracy) Emery, and Vexa Emery; step grandchildren, Kylie Roelfs and Adam Rohr; thirteen great-grandchildren, Zach, Jacqalyn, and Max Parde; Evyn, Easton, and Eli Finlayson; Mason, Mariah Cook, Gabriel Green, Eddy and Gracie Franey, Bowdie Roelfs, Harper Emery; siblings, Milton (Kathleen) Henderson, Glasco, Dorthea (Darrel) Boutz, Zeandale, Madelyn Brown, Clay Center, Pauline (Howard) Hynek, Endicott, NE, Sally (Gene) Buchholz, Lincoln, NE, and Katie Henderson, Glasco. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
