Marcella Grace Hood, 94, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home, Washington. A funeral service was 10 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette was organist and the congregation sang "My God and I" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Chase Wilkens, Nick Ost, Jerry Fuhrken, Vance Springer, Chad Belding and Chelsea Wilkens. Burial was in Washington City Cemetery. Marcella was born to Henry and Ruth (Fehr) Weckrley on April 27, 1921 in Emmons, KS. She grew up in Hanover and was baptized as a young girl in the Evangelical Church, Hanover. After graduating from Hanover High School, she went on to earn her teaching certificate and taught school in Emmons in 1938 and 1939. On October 17, 1941, Marcella married James Edward Hood in Hanover. She worked most of her life for the Johnson Truck Line, B & T Refuse Company and for Throop Insurance, until she retired. Marcella transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Washington in 1940. She was active in the church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and was the church treasurer for fourteen years. She loved attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities, cooking, reading, working crossword puzzles and just being with family. Marcella belonged to the Washington County Hospital Sewing Auxiliary, for many years, and loved to do embroidery work and sew. She always enjoyed the cats and dogs they had over the years, but was especially fond of a Pekinese, Dandy, her last pet. Marcella like to play the piano and played for her own enjoyment. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jim; and brothers, Jay Weckrley and Stan Weckrley. Survivors include children, Kaye (Dwayne) Wilkens, Linn, Michael (Sandie) Hood, Washington, Ruth (Warren) Belding, Fairbury, NE; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to the United Methodist Church or the Diabetes Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
