Joyce (Beem) McBeath, 68, Washington, KS, died March 2, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 5, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Marilyn Wullschleger officiated. Sheila Ouellette played prelude and postlude music on the organ. Special music included “Mull of Kintyre” by Paul McCartney.
Pallbearers were John Metz, Jeff Metz and Greg Metz, all of Washington, KS, Randy Crowell of Prairie Village, KS, Bruce Eickmann of Basehor, KS, and Ted Lillie of Washington, KS.
Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery.
Joyce was born January 16, 1941 in Barnes, KS, the daughter of Rolland and Norma (Knedlik) Beem. She graduated high school in 1959 from Wichita West High School.
On September 16, 1960 she married James McBeath in Harper, KS. She was a homemaker for her family. They had two daughters, Laura Burt, Washington, KS, and Linda Eickmann, Prairie Village, KS. All survive.
Additional survivors include three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Ferguson and husband J.R, and Mona Cody and husband Ken, all of Longton, KS; two brothers, Dallas Beem and wife Judy, and Bruce Beem, all of Longton, KS; step-sister, Joyce McQuillan of Grandview, MO; step-father, Eugene Thompson and wife, Corrine of Wichita, KS; brother-in-law, George McBeath and wife Carol of Haysville, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Errol Beem; and granddaughter, Samantha Eickmann. Joyce was a member of Hearts and Things a volunteer organization for the Washington County Hospital. She was a prior member of the Hospital Board.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
