Sherman Lee Skipton, 90, of Morrowville, KS, died February 24, 2009 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 2, at the Morrowville Christian Church. Rev. Wendell Sack and Rev. Andrewe Lucas officiated. Della Goldsberry was organist and Ed Durst and John Durst sang "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "Mansion Over the Hilltop". Burial was in the Morrowville Cemetery. Sherman was born April 10, 1918 to Jesse O. and Florence (Congleton) Skipton, on a farm near Haddam, KS. On May 14, 1939 he married Esther Back at Haddam. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Terry Skipton and wife Kathe of Columbus, NE, Perry Skipton and wife Teresa of Selah, WA, one daughter, Sheryl Senters and husband Denny of Yakima, WA; three brothers, Don Skipton and wife Marlene of Norton, KS, Virgil Skipton and wife Yvonne of McPherson, KS, and Darrell Skipton and wife Ilene of Omaha, NE; sister-in-laws, Frances Skipton and Mary Skipton of Deerfield, KS; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Freeman Skipton , Hoy Skipton, and Jesse Skipton, Jr.; one sister, Ginger Inskeep; and one great-grandson, Eli. Sherman was a member of the Lions Club, city council, and president of the Washington County Saddle club. Sherman enjoyed anything to do with horses, including trail rides, parades, and horseshows. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Wards Funeral Home.
