Lawrence E. "Bishop" Hogan, 98, of Greenleaf, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf. Father Jim Hoover and Sister Marilyn Wall officiated. Marie Hoover played the organ while the church choir sang "Prayer of St. Francis", "On Eagles Wings", "You Are Mine", and "Song of Farewell". John Howard played the bagpipes. Pallbearers were grandsons David Brun, Nicholas Hogan, Trevor Sullivan, Brian Stigge, Landon Kruse, Vincent Cox and Justin Hewitt. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Darin Brun, Delton Brun, Andrew Hogan, Gabriel Hogan, Shawn Stigge, Kellen Kruse and Jared Hewitt. Burial was at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Kimeo. Lawrence was born December 1, 1910 at Kimeo, Kansas, the son of John Patrick and Anna Cecilia (Geatley) Hogan. He attended Spence School through the 8th grade. He married Marcella M. Hoover on August 21, 1941 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kimeo. Lawrence was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf. He enjoyed doing volunteer work for his church while he was still in good health. He was an avid gardener and took pleasure in working in his yard. In their later years, he and his wife joined the Moose Lodge, Marysville, KS, and attended many dances and social gatherings at the Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Marcella; four sons, Michael Hogan and Beverly of Warsaw, MO, Kevin Hogan and wife Debbie of Topeka, KS, John Hogan and wife De De of Topeka, and Stephen Hogan and wife Tina of Salina, KS; eight daughters, Marcia Brun and husband Howard of Berryton, KS, Agnes Sullivan and husband Gary of Topeka, Johanna Rogers and David of Pleasant Hill, MO, Maureen Stigge and husband Norman of Morrowville, KS, Loretta Rahe and husband Edwin of Topeka, Monica Kruse and husband Douglas of Palmer, KS, Theresa Cox and husband Craig of Manhattan, KS and Ursula Hewitt and husband Lynn of Tecumseh, KS; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Lawrence was preceded in death by both parents; one brother, Rev. Michael Hogan; three sisters, Gertrude Schroll, Agnes Nuttman and Ursula Doebele; infant son, Lynn Joseph; and two grandsons, Caleb Lawrence Hogan and John Patrick Hogan. Memorials may be made out to the Lawrence Hogan Memorial Fund and sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
