Helen Joan Boggs, 79, Morrowville, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, May 17 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was 10 a.m., Monday, May 18 at the First Baptist Church, Washington. Rev. Kevin Woods officiated. Erin Toole was the pianist and Jack Smith sang "Amazing Grace", "Home" and "I'll Fly Away." The congregation sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "There Shall Be Showers of Blessing." Pallbearers were Tylor Boggs, Gerad Boggs, Christopher Striplin, Dawn Hieb, Lara Hinricher and Ashley Soliday. Posthumous Honorary Pallbearer was Ronald Lee Striplin. Burial was in Morrowville Cemetery. Joan was born on September 7, 1935 at Edgerton, KS to Ernest and Helen (Gillihan) Larrick. She was raised on a farm near Edgerton and attended elementary school at the Larrick School, a one room school, her first six years of schooling. She attended school in Edgerton and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1953. On September 19, 1954, Joan was united in marriage to Harold Boggs at the Methodist Church in Edgerton. To this union, three children were born, Harold Eugene, Kathryn Marie and Debra Joanne. Joan enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting, crocheting and scrapbooking and time spent with family. She would draw with her children and grandchildren. Joan was an enjoyable person, who liked a good joke and was a prankster at times. She liked collecting angels and old couple figurines. Joan worked in hospital offices for various hospitals and retired from Swingster in Fairbury, NE. After retirement, she and Harold would winter in Victoria, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ronald Lee Striplin; sisters, Betty Hundley, Nancy Eckert, and Judy Stitt; and brother, Ernest W. Larrick, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Harold; son, Gene (Jayne) Boggs, McPherson; daughters, Kathryn (Terry) Holt, Huron, SD, and Debra (Larry) Rice, Woodward, OK; sisters, Mary Lou Leslie, Floy Curry, Tula Gillespie, and Bonnie Ward; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
