Lolah W. Gaines, formerly of Doniphan, MO, passed away February 3, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Manhattan, Kansas at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 3 days . She was born February 20, 1918 in Mississippi Co., Arkansas to Charles Franklin and Ona Francis (Triplett) Hall. On August 27, 1933, Lolah was united in marriage to John Henry Gaines of rural Mississippi, Co. Arkansas. To this union were born 4 children, three girls and one boy. Lolah was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Gaines, her parents Charles Franklin and Ona Francis Hall, and two brothers: Albert and Richard. Survivors include her three daughters, Ona Gertrude (Gaines) Rowe of Malden, MO., Bettie Louise (Gaines) and husband Richard Smith of Onarga, Illinois, Marguerite Marcell (Gaines) and husband Jay Loyd of Choctaw, Oklahoma, and her son John H. Gaines, Jr. and wife Ruth of Washington, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren. Lolah lived in Doniphan from 1973 until 2008, when she entered a nursing home in Kansas. She was a member of the Baptist faith and active in several Doniphan area Baptist churches. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM, Sunday evening February 8, 2015 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral services will take place at 10 AM February 9, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with the burial to follow in the New Hope Baptist church cemetery.
