George H. Hoffman, 82, died November 25, 2008 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 2:00 pm. Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Pastor Glenna Woods and Pastor John Pace officiated. The hymns played during the service were “Whisper Jesus” and “He Came to Me”. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery, rural Haddam, KS. Casketbearers were Sean Wieland, Greg Siepert, Christopher Hoffman, Kurt Staggenborg, Chris Jansen and Matt Baker. George was born in rural Haddam on July 12, 1926 to John and Grace (Turner) Hoffman. He attended Arlington Country School and graduated from Haddam High School in 1944. He served in the US Army, being honorably discharged in 1946. George farmed with his Uncle Ross Cornwell near Haddam. On June 6, 1948 he was united in marriage to Ruth Zurfluh. They had one son, Billy. Ruth preceded him in death May 12, 1993. He was united in marriage to Ann Jones Hensley on November 6, 1993. George was a farmer and cattle rancher. He also worked for the City of Haddam, was on the Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of the American Legion and served as a Deacon with the Church of God of Prophecy to which he was a member since 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth; and three brothers, Archie, Myron (in infancy) and Dale. George is survived by his wife, Ann of Haddam; sons, Billy Hoffman and wife Sally, Haddam, Dennis Malone and wife Yen, Santa Anna, CA; daughter, Sherrie Rider and husband Terry, Wichita; brothers, Ivan Hoffman, Nampa,Idaho, Vilous Hoffman and wife Velma, Cuero, TX, Donnie Hoffman and wife Georgejean, Minatare,NE, Frank Hoffman and wife Marilene, Gillette, WY, Omar Hoffman and wife Betty, Endicott, NE; sister, Catherine Shellburn and husband Robert, Endicott, NE; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
