Jean Darby Jones, 84, Washington, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at her home north of Washington. Funeral services for Mrs. Jones were held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Presbyterian Church in Washington. Pastor Marilyn Wullschleger officiated. Becky Pannbacker was the organist and played "Prelude" by J.S. Bach. Burial was be in the Washington City Cemetery. Casketbearers were her son-in-laws and grandsons, Brian Harris, Edward Null, Paul Jeannot, Lars Ericksen, Nathan Harris and Joe Harris. Jean was born in Washington, November 19, 1923 to Herbert Henry and Edwina Marie (Hart) Darby. After graduating valedictorian from Washington High School in 1941, she attended the University of Kansas. During World War II she worded for the Department of Defense. On August 12, 1946, she married Robert R. Jones in Manhattan, Kansas, later moving with him to Wichita. She and Robert returned to Washington in 1951, where she worked in the family farm implement business, on the family farm, in her catering business, and for the Farmers Home Administration. She was appointed Washington County Probate Judge in 1967. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brother Walter Donald Darby; and sister Herberta Darby Fletcher. Jean is survived by her husband, Robert, Washington; four daughters, Pam Jeannot and husband Paul, Foristell, MO, Robin Harris and husband Brian, Seneca, Chris Null and husband Edward, Peoria, IL and Gwyn Ericksen and husband Lars, Overland Park; and six grandchildren, Nathaniel Harris, Joseph Harris, Kathleen Harris, Robery Null, Anne Null, and Leigh Null. A scholarship fund in the name of Jean Jones is being established. Memorials may be sent to the Jean Jones Memorial Fund, First National Bank, PO Box 215, Washington, Kansas 66968.
