Dorothy Bettles

DOROTHY BETTLES Dorothy Vernon Bettles, 99, Linn, formerly of Texas, died Jan. 5, 2006. She was born Aug. 6, 1906, the eldest child of Roy and Imo Harris Vernon in North Platte, Nebraska. She married Noel Bettles Aug. 31, 1927, in Pharr, Tx. He preceded her in death Nov. 4, 1980. They owned a machine shop in Brownsville, Texas, for over forty years. She retired as accountant for that business in 1979. Dorothy enjoyed reading, and did geneology for both sides of the family. She was interested in all of the local history. She moved to Caldwell, Tx., in 1981, to be near her sister Ruth until 1998 when she moved to a cottage apartment at the Linn Nursing Home to be near Mildred Balch. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother Lee; sisters Ruth Van Dresar, Naomi Vernon. Left to mourn her loss is sister-in-law Mildred Bettles Balch; 17 nieces and nephews.
