Irma M. Johnson, 92, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Lincoln County Hospital, Lincoln, KS. A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. The hymns "Amazing Grace", "Because He Lives" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand" were played.Burial was in Washington City Cemetery. Irma was born at Mankato, KS on April 10, 1922 to Oscar and Emma (Kent) Loomis, the youngest of five children. She went to Mankato schools and graduated from high school there. After high school, Irma went to Albuquerque, NM, where her older sister lived in order to stay with her and attend beauty school. On March 21, 1943, Irma was united in marriage to Jess Johnson at San Luis Obispo, CA. Jess was in the U.S. Army and they traveled around wherever he was stationed. After Jess was discharged they moved back to Mankato. Irma’s parents had moved to Washington and after visiting, Jess and Irma moved to Washington. They bought and ran a restaurant for six years. Irma went back into the beauty business and operated her shop for 51 years. She enjoyed traveling, camping with her family, attending dances and playing bridge. Irma was active with the Boy Scouts, served on the library board, the housing board, and was the second woman to serve on the Washington City Council. She was a charter member of the Fidelia Literary Club and volunteered at the museum. Irma was a member of the United Methodist Church and was an active member of United Methodist Women and attended various church board and committee meetings. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jess on May 20, 2011; brothers, Homer Loomis, Raymond Loomis; and sisters, Daisibel McIntyre and Opal Thompson. Survivors include her children, Jolene (Randy) Miller, Jacksonville, FL. Randy Johnson, Reading, KS; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
