Victor Benjamin Voelker, 92, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at York, NE. Visitation was Tuesday, September 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Palmer, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 3 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Pastor Jacob Sherry officiated. Sheila Stuenkel played the organ while the congregation sang "Asleep on Jesus", "Just As I Am", "Abide With Me" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." The pallbearers were Eric Voelker, Ryan Koch, Travis Schmieding, Lance Strickler, Trey Voelker and Zak Voelker. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Victor was born on October 8, 1921 at rural Palmer, KS to Otto and Lydia (Keller) Voelker. He was baptized, October 16, 1921 by Pastor J.G. B. Keller (his grandfather) and confirmed his faith in 1935 by Rev. Wilfred Meisler. He attended St. John Lutheran School, Palmer. Victor was a lifelong farmer. On February 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Florence Kolle at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Linn. He and Florence were blessed with five children, James, Patricia, Judith, Idona and Joel. Victor was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he held numerous offices, and loved singing in the choir. Victor could play the accordion, guitar, banjo and harmonica, he loved music. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Florence in 2003; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Kolle and Bert Carlyle. Survivors include his children, James (Carol) Voelker, Palmer, Patricia (Neal) Koch, Utica, NE, Judith (Darrell) Strickler, Clovis, CA, Idona (Ed) Schmieding, Gresham, NE, and Joel (Tammy) Voelker, Palmer; brother, Leo (Mardell) Voelker, Linn; sister, Gertrude (Delmer) Wilgers, Palmer; sister-in-law, Elsa Carlyle, Linn; fifteen grandchildren, Eric, Sheila, Tricia, Ryan, Lance, Keisha, Tiffany, Joy, Travis, Nicole, LaTona, Laura, Joelle, Trey, Zak; and fifteen great-grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated by the family later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
