Carol was born March 27, 1926 to Ralph and Thelma (Green) Muir on the farm near Salina. The family moved to a farm west of Hollenberg, when she was seven. Carol attended school in Hollenberg until her junior year, then transferred and graduated from Washington High School. After high school graduation, Carol got an emergency teaching certificate and taught school one year. In April of 1944, she was united in marriage to Glen Finlayson at her parent’s home. After her marriage, she again taught school for a year and a half. They moved to the farm near Hanover. Always the farmer at heart, she worked many years driving trucks, milking cows, feeding cattle and hogs, and running a variety of farm implements. She also found the time to put good food on the table every meal whether at home or in the field. While doing these duties, she helped raise four children and a large garden. In 1976, she began working at the Health Mart Pharmacy while still helping on the farm when time allowed. She retired from Health Mart after working 27 years. Carol was very active in her church and community. She was a Sunday school teacher, church board member, church secretary, and choir member. Carol and family were busy members of the Joycreek 4-H club where she served as Club Leader. Introduced early by her parents to the fellowship of the Order of Eastern Star, Carol held multiple positions within the Washington chapter. She was a member of the Washington Community Chorus and Emmons Home Extension. Carol enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading. She liked to play cards with friends and volunteered at the museum.
