Doris A. Lange, 75, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Washington, Kansas. Visitation is from Noon until 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 25 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service is 11 a.m., Thursday, June 26 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Pastor Jim Stark will officiate. Gina Miller is the organist and Wiley Alexander will sing. A private family burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery. Doris was born on February 7, 1939 at Haddam to William and Orpha (Latham) Shoup. She graduated from Haddam High School. On December 31, 1969, she was united in marriage to Merlin Lange at the Lutheran Church in Hanover. Doris and Merlin owned and operated the Happy Hour Bar and Grill in Washington for 23 years. Doris was fun loving, she never knew a stranger and loved being around people. She enjoyed her family and spending time with them. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery and quilting. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Merlin; sister, Virginia Jonte; and brother-in-law, Gary Tobin. Survivors include her son, Kent Lange, Winfield; step-sons, James Lange, Beatrice, NE, Ronald (Kim) Lange, Omaha, NE; step-daughter, Rhonda (Jon) Brinkman, Palmyra, NE; sisters-in-law, Opal Tobin, Marysville, Alberta (Bob) L'Ecuyer, Morrowville; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A memorial fund is established in her name and will be designated by the family at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
