Dorothy M. Elliott, 85, formerly of Morrowville, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Ron Brown officiated. Kirk and Pam Gallion sang "Old Rugged Cross” and “Whispering Hope". Pallbearers were Jeff Percival, Nathan Iwert, Adam Grower, Leo Moore, Larry Lindsley, Robert Taylor and Ronnie Lindsley. Burial was in the Hickory Grove (Blocker) Cemetery near Morrowville. Dorothy was born on May 8, 1923 at rural Morrowville to Calvin and Louise (Boecker) Smith. She graduated from Morrowville High School and lived in the Morrowville area her entire life. On January 11, 1944 she was united in marriage to Orville Elliott. Together they farmed. Dorothy was a hard working farm wife, helping her husband with the farming and milking cows. She was active in her children's lives and would raise a garden so they would have fresh produce to eat. Dorothy’s passion was quilting and she also loved sewing. Throughout the years she has made many quilts. She was also an avid bird watcher and enjoyed meeting with her card club to play pinochle. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Pursley Club. Her parents; husband, Orville on October 19, 2003; two brothers, Wayne Smith and Dale Smith; and one sister, Betty Holden, precede her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Alice Percival and husband Dick of Hebron, NE, Jean Grower and husband Cecil of Morrowville, Peggy Iwert and husband Lou of Olathe; one son, Bob Elliott and Bev Barrows of Welda; three sisters, Leota Moore of Washington, Fern Lindsley of Morrowville, and Doris Taylor of Wichita; nine grandchildren; and twelve great- grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
