Elsie Hiesterman

September 15, 1920 — February 4, 2014

Elsie Anna (Burger) Hiesterman, 93, Linn, KS, died February 4, 2014 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. Visitation was Friday, February 7, from 1 to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. Rev. David Gruoner officiated. Eunice Beier played the organ while the congregation sang "God Loves Me Dearly", "Jesus Loves Me", "For All the Saints" and "Children of the Heavenly Father." The pallbearers were Luke Hiesterman, Jordan Hiesterman, Daniel Hiesterman, Jeremy Olson, Kevin Clark, Shawn Reynolds and John Meier. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Linn. Elsie was born September 15, 1920, at Clay Center, KS, daughter of Karl and Stella (Jacobs) Burger. She attended school south of Clay Center at 4 Mile School. Elsie worked as a cleaning girl for a few families in Clay Center and also worked as a nurse aid at the Clay County Hospital during WWII. On November 7, 1946, she married Erwin Hiesterman. They were members at Zion Lutheran in Linn where she was a member of Zion’s LWML. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, playing pinochle and flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin; sister, Erna Schultze; brothers, Clarence and Herman Burger; sisters–in–law, Ida Uffman and Helen Burger; brothers–in-law, Werner Schultze, Emil Peters and Arnold Hiesterman; and great-grandsons, Andrew Hiesterman and Kaden Clark. Survivors include five sons, John (Ramona) Hiesterman, Washington, Ernest (Cindy) Hiesterman, Barnes, Dee (Kollette) Hiesterman, Milford, Joel (Michela) Hiesterman, Phillipsburg, and Philip (Vickie) Hiesterman, Linn; ten grandchildren, Angie Hiesterman, Jennifer Allen, Kate (Jeremy) Olson, Laura (Kevin) Clark, Daniel (Lydia) Hiesterman, Lisa (Shawn) Reynolds, Jordan Hiesterman, Luke (and fiancé Megan Morris) Hiesterman, Heather Hiesterman and Tina (John) Meier; nine great-grandchildren, Felicia Allen, William, Elizabeth, Abigail and Lillian Olson, Lorena Hiesterman, Brad, Rachel and Sarah Meier; sisters, Edna Koch, Clay Center, Dorothy Harris, Ft. Dodge, IA, and Mabel Bunday, Hamel, MN; brothers, Ed (Rhoda) Burger, Austin, MN, Bill (Elna) Burger, Palmer, Leroy (Mary) Burger, Del Ray Beach, FL, and Dale (Buenta) Burger, Clay Center; and sisters-in-law, Mildred Peters, Linn, and Bernadine Burger, Clare, IA; along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to Lutheran Hour Ministries or Zion Lutheran Church School Endowment Fund.
