Sylvia C. Stuenkel, 93, of Linn, KS, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at her home in Linn. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 6, at St. John's Lutheran, Palmer. Rev. Jacob Sherry officiated. Sheila Stuenkel played the organ while the congregation sang “Rock of Ages”, “I Am But a Stranger Here”, “What God Ordains is Always Good” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”. Burial was in the church cemetery. Sylvia was born on April 28, 1920, at Linn, to Harry and Pauline (Blanken) Stuenkel. On May 2, 1920, she was baptized by Rev. J.G.B. Keller and confirmed by Rev. Keller in 1934. Sylvia attended school in Kansas City to become an LPN and then worked at KU Medical Center for thirty years. After retiring she returned to the Linn area. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Palmer. Preceding her in death were her parents; and sister, Velma Braun. Survivors include her brother, Marvin Stuenkel, Linn; sisters, Cecelia Dahm, Ruth Mueller, Lavera Helms and Lula Stuenkel, all of Linn; brother-in-law, Harold Braun, Clay Center; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial fund is established to the Lutheran Heritage Foundation or to the donor's choice. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
