Bernita Reinert, 95, died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Washington, KS. A funeral service was at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 20 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf. Pastor Timothy Lorenz officiated. Arlene Miller was organist. Vernon Smith sang "Amazing Grace" and the congregation sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Jesus, Thy Blood and Righteousness” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” Burial was in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Fiedler IV, Kim Thompson, Greg Kieffer, Howard Debauche, Dan Meyer and Larry Kohlmeier. Bernita was born at Palmer, KS, to Clarence and LaVina (Potter) Thompson on July 29, 1918. She taught rural school at Star School and Woody School. On July 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Henry Reinert at St. Paul’s Lutheran, Palmer, KS. They lived on farms near Morrowville and Kimeo, before purchasing eighty acres near Enosdale, KS, where they lived and farmed. In 1977, they moved into Washington. Bernita was the bookkeeper for the farm and served as secretary for the Enosdale Community Meetings. After moving to Washington she worked at the nursing home and was a volunteer for bingo. She was active with the Hospice program for many years. In 1954, she became a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf. She taught Saturday and Sunday school and served on the finance committee. Bernita enjoyed reading, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, baking apple pies and cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed having friends over for coffee and visiting. Survivors include her son, David (Marcia) Reinert, Oxford, AR; two daughters, Shirley Foerster, Roseville, CA, and Beth (Frank) Fiedler III, Myrtle Creek, OR; brother, Clarence (Donna) Thompson, Abilene, KS; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Henry; sisters, Marguerite Kieffer, Ruth Debauche; and a granddaughter. A memorial fund is established to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour.
