John D. Wray, 81, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Community Care in Clifton, Kansas. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn. Pastor David Gruoner officiated. Burial was in Mound Cemetery, Barnes. John was born on November 30, 1926 at Barnes to Anthony and Minnie (Fisher) Wray. He worked as a salesman for Globe Union Batteries. He also previously owned the NAPA stores in Clifton and Clyde and had worked for NAPA in Salina. John later drove busses for Eldorado National out of Salina. He started the Clifton-Vining Country Music Festival that was a very successful event for several years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. On September 24, 1950 he was united in marriage to Helen Beikmann at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Linn. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2007. He is also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by son, Larry and wife Rhoda, Salina; daughter, Juanita Beams and husband Chuck, Salina; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Mound Cemetery Fund.
