Roland Baird, 72, of Washington, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Barnes. Roland was born April 2, 1936, at Washington, the son of Floyd and Margaret (Wohler) Baird. In Roland's youth, he worked for Kuhlamn Motors as a mechanic. He later became a full time mail carrier until his retirement over 30 years later. In his retirement he worked for Keesecker Agri Business. He enjoyed "dabbling" and collecting John Deere tractors, doing crossword puzzles, listening to and attending Royals baseball games, watching sports, and playing pitch. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Association of Letter Carriers. On November 11, 1960 he was united in marriage to Alice Faye Jorgenson. She preceded him in death on March 25, 1999. Roland was also preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Eldred Baird. Surviovrs include one son, Todd Baird and wife Susan of Salina, Kan.; one daughter, Tammy Baird of Burlingame, Kan.; two brothers, Neil Baird of Overland Park, Kan., and Robert Baird of Ft. Scott, Kan.; two sisters, Marcia Mauer of Hastings, Neb., adn Sharon Soudek of Topeka, Kan.; and one grandson, Spencer Baird of Salina, Kan. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
