Robert E. Ross, 77, of Washington, KS, died Tuesday, July 2, at his home. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 6 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette was organist and played "How Great Thou Art" as the congregation sang. “Troubador” and “When I Get Where I’m Going” recordings were played. The pallbearers were Mike Ross, Gary Stone, Dennis Oehmke, Alan Oehmke, Robert Ross and Mike Zenger. Burial was in Parallel Cemetery, Clifton, KS. Robert Eugene Ross was born September 30, 1935 at Palmer, KS, son of Alec and Louise (Musselman) Ross. His mother preceded him in death in 1936. Bob was raised by his father, uncle and aunt; and later adopted by his uncle and aunt, George and Dorothy Ross. He attended the Ross School in Clay County and graduated from Clifton High School in 1953. After high school he was married to Reva Howard. Together they had three children. Later, he married Jane Lakin and they had one child. He retired from Kansas Gas Service and was a member of IBEW #304. He enjoyed woodworking, horses, hunting and his family. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; an infant brother; and uncle. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jane; mother, Dorothy Ross, Clay Center; daughters, Nan, Kansas City, KS, and Nori (Kurtis) Gill, El Reno, OK; sons, Michael (Janell) Ross, Meriden, KS, and Robert (Megan) Ross, Newton, KS; brother, Don (Lucretia) Ross, Rudolph, WI; grandchildren, Addie Gill, Yukon, OK, Kasey Gill, EL Reno, OK, and Morgan (Austin) Marshall, Lemore, CA, Caitlyn Ross, Meriden, KS, Blake Ross, Manhattan, KS, Courtney (Jason) Jeschke, Winfield, KS, Emily Ross of Linn, KS, Mollee and Maggee Smith, Newton, KS, Graycee and Jorgee Ross, Newton, KS, and Josh Dankenbring, Manhattan, KS; nieces and nephews. Memorials will be donated to Washington County Historical Society (Emmons School) and Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
