Lester A. Tuttle, 87, of Beatrice, NE, and formerly of Washington, KS, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln, NE. A funeral service was at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 27th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor Judy Hill officiated. Sheila Ouellette was the organist and accompanied Malia Divilbiss as she sang "The Battle Hymn of the Rapublic." The congregation sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace." Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ben Modrell, Calvin Roop, Grant Tuttle, Marshall Tuttle, William Tuttle, James Tuttle and Cory Divilbiss. Lester was born July 27, 1925 at Washington, KS, son of Arthur and Caroline (Fuhrken) Tuttle. He attended Scruby grade school and graduated from Washington High School. After graduating from High School, Lester joined the United States Coast Guard (Merchant Marines) on February 23, 1945 and in June, 1945, joined the United States Army with a tour of duty in Europe. On December 2, 1951 he married Della Pralle at Marysville, KS. They farmed north of Washington. Lester drove a school bus and worked as a custodian for the Washington Schools. He also painted houses and built fence, which he became noted for. Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as writing articles and stories for Fishing and Hunting Magazines. Many of his articles and stories were published. He also wrote poetry. In February, 2013 they moved to Beatrice, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Tuttle; and two sisters, Nina Tegethoff and Vada Dory. Survivors include his wife, Della; two daughters, Twila Modrell, Bennington, KS, and Brenda Jamison, Hoisington, KS; two sons, Scotty (Barbara) Tuttle, Torrington, WY, and Marty (Mary Beth) Tuttle, Lewiston, NE; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Dialysis Center of Lincoln. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 W 2nd, Washington, KS 66968.
