Lloyd Alva Schaich, 78, Morrowville, died March 17, 2008 at the Washington County Hospital, Washington. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Ron Brown officiated. Burial was in the Fairbury Cemetery at Fairbury, Nebraska. Lloyd was born December 23, 1929, on a farm near Morrowville, Kansas, the sixth of seven children to Alva and Gertrude Schaich. He attended Plainview Country School through the sixth grade. The family moved to Wyoming where he finished the eighth grade. After three years, the family returned to the same farmstead and house in Morrowville where Lloyd resided with his brother Eldon until his death. Lloyd raised hogs and did the gardening. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and trapping. Also known as “Slim”, Lloyd was an expert shot and his best friend was always his hunting dog. He was a historian, especially of Indian lore, pioneer and frontier days. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Lola; one brother, Glenn Schaich; and two sisters, Evelyn Miller and Opal Russell. Survivors include one sister, Marjorie Terpening of Klamath Falls, Ore.; one brother, Eldon Schaich of Morrowville, Kan.; one brother-in-law, Luther Miller of Fairbury, Neb.; three nephews, John Russell of Henderson, Nev., Ron Miller of Kearney, Neb., Victor Miller of Fairbury, Neb.; and five nieces, Donna Jones of Pleasanton, Cal., Shirley Earnest of Klamath Falls, Ore., Marilyn Hall of Kettle Falls, Wash., Beverly Oestman of Eagle, Neb., and Linda Miller, Fairbury, Neb. Ward Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
