Thelma Tegethoff, 89, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at the Washington County Hospital. A Funeral service was held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 23, at the First United Presbyterian Church, Washington. Pastor Marilyn Sweet officiated. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art, and "Jesus Loves Me" accompanied by Becky Pannbacker on the organ. Pallbearers were be Jim Jones, Jay Peters, Dan Kugler, Corey Tegethoff, Jeff Claycamp, Derrick Richling, and Cory Christiansen. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Thelma was born in rural Washington County on April 11, 1923 to Wilbur and Mabel (Stamm) Kohlmeyer. She graduated from Washington High School. After graduation she attended business college and worked for a bank in Topeka. On October 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Henry “Butch” Tegethoff at the First United Presbyterian Church, Washington. Thelma was involved with the farming and cattle operation. She worked for her father in his business, Portable Cab Company. Thelma later worked at the Sale Barn, Zabokrtsky Hardware and for Marcon Pies. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and with the women’s group. Thelma liked to visit at the hospital, nursing homes, and would volunteer at KSDS and for Hospice. Thelma enjoyed gardening, canning,baking and genealogy. She also did quilting and sewing. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Henry; daughter, Gail Jones; and son-in-law, Harold Jones, Jr. Survivors include, daughter, Joan (Jeff) Kugler of Manhattan, KS; son, Don (Debbie) Tegethoff of Washington; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Kohlmeyer of Washington; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial fund is established to the church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
